When you set up the app, you tell us about your space — by sharing your location or entering your ZIP code, we determine your climate zone. You also tell us how much sun your yard gets and your style preferences. Our design engine then selects plants that are:

• Style-matched — chosen to fit the look and feel of your selected design style
• Companion-aware — selected to grow well together as a system
• Proportioned & layered — arranged with depth and balance so taller plants anchor the back and smaller ones fill the front

Your USDA hardiness zone determines which plants can survive your winters. Gardenful detects your zone automatically from your location (or you can enter a ZIP code), then only recommends plants verified to thrive in your specific climate.
